 Post subject: Game Animation - lines and smears

My company, Kohrtoons Studio, has been working now for about 2 months on Zephyr Games', upcoming release entitled Kirin Wars. We were hired to develop the sprite animations and cut scene animations based on George Berger's character designs.

At this point I still don't have much to talk about as we are about 15% complete with the sprite animations, though I can say these have been a challenge. We had to translate otherwise detailed illustrations into micro assets only a little over 100 px high. What has helped has been omitting any line art within the characters, this prevents their forms from getting muddy. Stylistically, we also chose to smear a lot of the images. A smear is where you take to keys then blend the later into the previous by smearing color between the two. These can also be refereed to as motion lines.
